Deciding on what career to pursue is a serious matter that requires time for thinking and, if you are fastidious, a good amount of research (which may come in the form of asking people close to you for advice, or browsing the Internet). There is no sure-fire way of knowing which career path will help you achieve your dreams, but there are tried-and-tested tips that you have to keep in mind if you want to increase your chances of reaching that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

One such tip is that you should always, always go for a career that is in line with what you love to do, otherwise, you might end up feeling burned-out easily. The second tip is to be vigilant when it comes to trends try to determine which of them is here to stay, and then get a job that is related to it. Currently, one of the most stable and profitable jobs you can get is in the area of alternative medicine. This is because alternative medicine or CAM (complementary and alternative medicine) has been around since the first time man has learned how to treat a cut, or developed a method to calm the nerves. In short, it has staying power. Also, alternative medicine encompasses a lot of methods meaning you can choose from dozens of techniques when the time has come to specialize in one area .

But how do you become a CAM practitioner?

Basic knowledge of alternative medicine methods is not enough to make you a CAM specialist. For this, you have look for a school that offers alternative medicine courses, specifically an alternative medicine course that appeals to you. The easiest way to do this would be to first consider the establishments in your location. If you live in a large, urban area, it is very likely that you will find an alternative medicine school. If unfortunately there is no school for alternative medicine in your area, you can always opt for online education. Listings for alternative medicine schools that offer this type of education can easily be found online, and the best thing is, some are located abroad.

There are excellent alternative medicine schools in India, for instance, that offer genuine CAM education. A word of caution, though: if you plan on searching via the Internet, you should exercise caution as it is very easy to be deceived. Before considering a school, make sure that it is accredited and that it is permitted to teach alternative medicine. So before you enroll in online alternative medicine courses in India, make sure that the school that is offering them is recognized in the United States. You can do this by corresponding with the NCCAM, or the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine.

Aside from looking for a school, there are other steps you need to take before you become a CAM specialist. After choosing a school, you still need to decide what type of course you are going to take. There are a lot of options, from diploma courses to ones that will give you a Ph.D., but you should remember that the requirements for each of these varies so you need to see first if you are qualified to take your desired course. You should also check how licensing and regulating procedures in your state work. This is a very important part of becoming a licensed CAM practitioner, since if you are not aware of the rules of your state, you might end up wasting both time and money on a venture that is not profitable .

Venturing onto the Internet, one finds an almost infinite range of opinion on the longevity of essential oils, and what the best practices for storing oils might be. Do true essential oils, as some claim, last forever? Do they all get stored in cool, dark places? How about the refrigerator? The truth is that there are several correct answers depending on the essential oil variety. Here’s a look at the range of shelf-lives, and how best to care for each type of therapeutic essential oil.

The lifespan of essential oils, if simply left in their bottles in the average home ranges from a few months to almost indefinitely. Over time, certain factors in the environment degrade the natural constituents of certain oils and not others. These environmental factors include: the presence of oxygen (or simply exposure to air), heat, and light. Theoretically, oil left in an open bottle, sitting in the sunlight will then have the shortest lifespan, and a closed bottle — with very little airspace — in a dark, cool cabinet will have the longest. Yet because oils vary so greatly in their natural chemical makeup, this is truly just a generalization.

To make matters a little more complex, some companies publish a “shelf life” for their products — and many customers are interested in this figure. This term really only refers to the longevity of an oil after the bottle has been opened and is keep at room temperature and out of sunlight. But by taking measures to prevent an oil’s aging, the real shelf life of even the most delicate oils can be many years.

It’s also important to consider that its not the end of the world if an essential oil’s aroma gets a little flat. It will still retain much of its therapeutic benefit — if you still like the aroma, wonderful! Inhale it! At the same time, some oils actually cause skin irritation to some people if they’ve gotten old. This has been proven for lavender and tea tree essential oils. Again, they many still impart their therapeutic benefits, but for some people (about 18% of the population) get skin reaction to these oils if they’ve aged too long. The bottom line here is that its still safe to enjoy the aroma of older oils that have theoretically short shelf lives, but its probably better to avoid using them in other ways unless they’ve been stored in a very protective manner.

Looking at the aging of individual oils and groups of oils, it is the cold-pressed citrus oils which oxidize most rapidly. You could even conceive of why this might be: these oils have been directly extracted from fresh fruit, whereas other oils have been steam distilled or solvent extracted. They are the most close to nature as you can come.

Within the citrus oils themselves, we find that grapefruit essential oil is the most susceptible to oxidation of them all. But it’s also important to note that you can easily protect this and all the citrus oils from aging by keeping them in a cold, dark location, in bottles with very little air space in them. The refrigerator is acceptable, though if you choose to keep your oils in the “cold box”, consider keeping a smaller bottle at room temperature that you work from, decanting some from the cool bottle once every couple of weeks or so. This prevents the oil in cold storage from being disrupted by frequently changing conditions — cold to warm to cold again — and possibly absorbing water from the air in the process.

The floral essential oils have a great range of natural shelf lives. Neroli, the delicate anti-stress, anti-anxiety oil has a shelf life similar to those of the cold pressed citrus oils. At the other end of the spectrum are Jasmine and Rose, which naturally retain their wonderful properties for many years after their extraction. Between these are lavender and ylang ylang, which should be considered for cold storage if not being used in the first few months after purchase.

Most other oils will be at least as forgiving in terms of storage as the florals, some much more so. These include, from most delicate to most durable: the spice oils, the herbs, and the oils from evergreen tree needles. Care should be taken with the oils distilled from spices, as they have that special ethereal top note to them — they may be best in cold storage unless used fairly quickly.

As for the other end of the spectrum, there are many oils that get better with age, or at least have a shelf life so long as to not be of concern. The “resin” oils are like this: frankincense and myrrh seem to age nicely. Patchouli and sandalwood are two oils that actually command a premium price after they’ve been put away for storage for several years. Other oils in this category are spikenard, vetiver, and galbanum. So when storing these oils at home, there’s really no need to give them special attention at all.

Here you can see the very wide range of correct answers as to how you should properly store your essential oils. The first consideration is whether you’ll be using your oils within the first few months after purchase — if this is the case, there’s no need to concern yourself with storage. If you’ll be keeping them longer than that, decide how long you’ll want to be storing them, and which of those oils falls into the “very delicate” category, the “moderately delicate” category, and the “gets better with age” category. With this knowledge, you can then decide whether to put some of your oils away in cold storage, to maintain their utmost freshness. Through these guidelines, you’ll be able to always use oils with the greatest health benefits.

The Ananda Apothecary is a fully-stocked source of therapeutic aromatherapy products, including cold pressed carrier oils and a great selection of aromatherapy diffusers.

In this issue, I can share my expertise acquired from the conglomerate and its operating companies. For the purpose of this text, I can articulate the Managing for Innovation that is one amongst the Eleven Values and Ideas in Malcolm Baldrige Criteria. As before, I can use case studies to indicate how some of the businesses implement them.

To recap, below are the Eleven Core Values and Ideas of Baldrige Criteria:-

Visionary Leadership

Client-Driven Excellence

Organizational and Personal Learning

Valuing Employees and Partners

Agility

Specialise in the Future

Managing for Innovation

Management by Reality

Public Responsibility and Citizenship

Specialise in Results and Making Price

Systems Perspective

I can handle the one of the Worth in daring letters in this text as below:- Articulated Managing for Innovation: What is Innovation in the context of Baldrige Criteria? As described in the Baldrige Criteria 2005, it means “creating meaningful amendment to enhance an organization’s merchandise, services, processes, and operations and to form new price for the organization’s stakeholders”. Strategically, Innovation should lead you to a new dimension of business performance. And it’s to price raise the organization in terms increased in market share, capturing new customers and better profit etc. It’s not about research into new product or service that cannot be commercialized.

To be effective, organization ought to set direction and policy regarding innovation of product and repair to an extent not to discourage such initiatives thanks to minor failure however to manage such activities to yield maximum results. Innovation should expend into supporting process to easy doing business with customers

Case Study on Managing for Innovation Most companies have some kind of analysis and development into new products. To some, they’re ready to upgrade existing product for higher or completely different applications. The extent of specialise in Innovation into new merchandise is very much driven by the market or customer requirements. It is seldom in the case where it is done strategically to position earlier than competitors. Maybe, it’s a risk issue to be thought-about where “Total New” is definitely needs sturdy courage and smart foresights. To play safe, some prefers to be a follower.

On Managing for Innovation, some adopted the “Trial and Error” approach in which innovation is performed based on pass experiences, feedback but existing ability and testing facilities. Investment into new or trendy equipment and facilities often an hindrance to advance research and development of latest products.

The implication to the present approach ends up in loss of product cycle time therefore new product launches is delayed. New product has numerous quality problems. Another side of Managing for Innovation is that the support services to materialize the new product production. Production method is usually taken as a right it will cope with new features of the new product innovated.

Thus way, innovation is confined to product and services at operation level. Innovation for brand spanking new business model or business method aren’t focus purpose perhaps it’s a better risk to make changes.

Chance for Improvement Organization need to totally understand the requirements of the market and client and predict their future requirement. Use such info to manage innovation for glorious performance. Key indicator to live such initiatives should be established to observe the progress and quality of innovations. Price-added measures ought to be included to measure Come of Investment for new product or services.

Company policies should be set up to encourage innovation. Though failure in innovation ought to be discourage, it ought to not have any penalty element in it. Such penalty part in the policy whether or not written or otherwise would damage innovation.

In outline, you’ll have noted the means I articulated Managing for Innovation. It merely describe its objectives towards business sense as this is often the scope of my article. Having understood the Managing for Innovation in Values and Ideas of Malcolm Baldrige, it ought to be taken as a strategically for future business advantage. Leaders would possibly benchmark their CEO of Baldrige Winners on their TQM successes in this value.

Within the innovation field, the closest issue we have a tendency to need to a professional association is the InnovationNetwork and its annual Convergence conference (produced in partnership with the Institute for International Research), which simply passed off in Minneapolis. I’m on a plane heading home to California as I write this, and I have to mention, this was the best conference I’ve attended in quite some time.

The talk within the hallways was concerning the up-tick in the quantity of firms launching innovation makeovers. Simply as some of us predicted, as the world economy has improved and CEOs get past their hunker down/cut prices/survival mentality, the query of the way to drive growth begins to dog them. However obtaining senior management to require action on innovation often wants a catalyst.

To handle this issue at Convergence, I led a CEO/Senior Management Panel titled “The way to Gift Innovation in a very Approach That Gets to Yes”. We tend to jettisoned the traditional panel discussion draped table and moderator podium and replaced it with a a lot of dynamic talk show format. It went well, and was terribly well received. Guests on the lighthearted program included Carol Pletcher, Cargill Innovation Officer; Stephen N. Oesterle, M.D., Senior Vice President Medication and Technology, Medtronic, Inc; Virginia Albanese, Vice President of Service, FedEx Custom Essential; and Alex Cirillo, head of 3M Business Graphics.

Championing innovation as a driver of growth

In my opening monologue, I noted that each time another company says yes to innovation, you can be positive there was a champion at work behind that decision. And very often a team of committed people as well. They did their homework. Amassed the evidence. And made the case for embarking on a brand new approach to innovation as a manner to drive growth.

With PriceWaterhouseCoopers and Accenture surveys showing that innovation has risen to the prime of CEO priorities, you may think this could be easy. It isn’t. CEOs understand there is a nice need to master innovation. But there’s a lot of trepidation.

Top-line vs. bottom-line growth

Thus, firms have long favored interventions and initiatives that promise immediate returns: lean producing, TQM, reengineering, Six Sigma and legion others. These method improvements, none of which are straightforward to implement, have the advantage of showing short-term cost-savings, and elimination of inefficiency, the need for fewer staffers. They’re, therefore, easier for consultants from outside and/or advocates on the within to sell to the fellows in the head shed. But here’s what is not usually clear: they are doing nothing to form high-line growth. They solely improve the underside line, and when awhile you run out of places to cut.

Oh certain, you’ll achieve growth from mergers and acquisitions, thus the M&A boom of the1990s. Guess who did a phenomenal job of selling CEOs on that strategy? Banks, lawyers, accounting corporations, M&A consultants, etc. The only drawback: study when study demonstrates this is often a technique fraught with problems of integrating incompatible cultures, and turf battles. But the large aha is that they only do not create shareholder value, as longitudinal studies by McKinsey and others clearly demonstrate. Again: innovation is the only manner to unlock organic growth, and the sole manner to sustain it’s with an innovation strategy that has metrics, is comprehensive, involves the full enterprise and is cross-useful and cross-silo.

Innovation initiatives need patience, commitment

Innovation will never be an straightforward sell as a result of it cannot promise a quick payback. It took agribusiness large Cargill, for instance, almost a year of internal dialogue and study of best practices in innovation before of us there got clear on how they even should define it. With almost a hundred,000 staff, they knew it was a journey, however that they had to start out somewhere if they were visiting remodel the organization. And because the feisty and outspoken Carol Pletcher, Cargill’s innovation maven, told the audience at Convergence, currently they’re on their way.

Cargill has the advantage of being a privately-held company. Many CEOs of publicly-traded companies, with Wall Street ever additional impatient for steady quarterly earnings, are apt to be gun shy. Innovation conjures up sinkholes of investment and missed earnings - and too soon the ax. Therefore if you are in a corporation that hasn’t however gotten to yes, you are going to own to overcome a ton of what professional salespeople decision objections, both real and imagined.

Building a winning case for innovation

How can you create a stronger case for innovation? How are you going to present innovation in a very approach that gets to yes? By doing all your homework. By keeping current on this ever-evolving field and knowing what works and what doesn’t. By constant benchmarking of what other innovation-adept firms are doing, and finding out. And by selling advantages (growth, transformation, talent retention), not features (it works like this, is not this clever, etc.).

Most important of all, it’s essential to spot and reference companies that are enjoying the fruits of their systematic approach to innovation. Whirlpool, as an example, added a whopping $a hundred million in prime line revenue during the primary twelve months of launching its now-famous innovation initiative. Deloitte-Touche Tomatsu of South Africa doubled the dimensions of its enterprise at intervals 2 years of launching InnovationZone, its plan capture system. And corporations like 3M and Medtronic cite innovation for their success year when year. By building the case for innovation, it will not be long before alternative corporations come to you, wanting to know how you did it!

Researcher Ping Chung Leung and colleagues notes that many scientific studies have linked tea to beneficial effects in preventing cancer, heart disease, and other conditions. Recent studies in humans and cell cultures suggest that tea may also benefit bone health. But few scientific studies have explored the exact chemicals in tea that might be responsible for this effect.

Researchers from the Chinese University of Hong Kong exposed a group of cultured bone-forming cells (osteoblasts) to three major green tea components epigallocatechin (EGC), gallocatechin (GC), and gallocatechin gallate (GCG) for several days.

Scientists found that EGC in green tea, boosted the activity of a key enzyme that promotes bone growth by up to 79 percent. EGC also significantly boosted levels of bone mineralization in the cells, which strengthens bones.

They also showed that high concentrations of ECG blocked the activity of a type of cell (osteoclast) that break down bone minerals, causing decreased bone mass and osteoporosis. They also report that “the green tea components did not cause any toxic effects to the bone cells.”

Researchers from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, the research team administered green tea extract to middle-aged female rats. They found that green tea suppressed bone erosion, enhanced formation of bone, and promoted larger bone volume.

Green tea has been shown to benefit health in a variety of ways that include cancer and heart disease prevention. Green tea is a natural, non-toxic means to better health that could also lead to stronger, healthier bones.

It’s not surprising then, that medical discount plans have much appeal. They can be touted as an affordable alternative to health insurance.
