7 straightforward steps to better adhdgift.com behaviour

By Hoe Bing

Before we jump into the various suggestions that you can implement for Add behaviour improvement, let me just congratulate you on the journey thus far.

Did you know that you have just learnt more on AD/HD than most professionals will be able to feed you in one entire year?

You ought to pat yourself in the back because now all your hard work will pay off.

After building up your understanding on Attention Deficit Disorder With/Without HyperactivityD, the strategies will make more sense and you can adapt them to your specific situation. Better yet, my goal is that by the end of it all you will have enough knowledge that you can make the most informed decision.

Alright, so what are the seven steps I hear you say. Well, these are preliminary steps and are designed to set the tone for the rest of our journey together. Although they will not turn an outrageous, bombastic, testosterone GI Joe or Jane into a quiet, calm, social saint, in one day, it is the first step and over time you will see the results.

And the best part, I guarantee that as a parent you will move from the position of enduring pain back to enjoying the company of your beloved child.

So sit back relax and let us get stuck into it.

7 simple steps to better behaviour

1. Accept your child as he or she is

2. Aim for the subtle path not the jugular

3. Action a routine

4. Announce your position and communicate clearly

5. Analyse the environment for precipitant

6. Always look for the good side

7. Acknowledge problems and implement ‘danger containment’ strategies

STEP 1: Accept your young kid as he or she is

ADD is part of the childs make up. Their bodies are inherently more sensitive to the challenges of our environment and many of their behavioural outbursts are often out of their direct control (but that is because you have no idea what the trigger is yet).

This is a physical problem just like bad asthma. If your young adolescent was wheezing and breathless you wouldn’t say it was all in their mind now would you? Neither would it occur to you to blame them when they run slower than their friends right?

Here is just something to think about. I was reading a journal article. I will spare you the scientific detail but they have found that wheat protein can mimic the asthma response! What this means is that of the asthmatics out there, some are actually intolerant to wheat!

That is things like breakfast cereal, white processed bread, rice and all kinds of stuff that most of us take in everyday.

What does that have to do with AD-HD? Well, if you were thinking wheat might be implicated in Attention Deficit Disorder you are right on the ball. Indeed there has been some research that suggests maybe some kids are sensitive to wheat and that may cause them to display Hyperactivity like symptoms.

Something to think about isn’t it?

ADD is very real and I’m not here to convince you other wise. My aspiration is to help you through this trial so that you too can go out and help other people. From previous discussions you know that being cruel with your kid is not going to make things better. Instead, undersanding them for who they are, believing that the restrictions are a little different from their other brother can go a long way.

After all, they do have the Attention Deficit Disorder advantage, of course that doesn’t mean you let them get away with murder. It just means you have to make particular allowances.

Once you have accepted the child for who they are it is time to explore…

Step 2: Aiming for the non violent path, not the jugular!

young kids with Attention Deficit Disorder With/out Hyperactivity generate an immense amount of stress in their families. Yet ironically stress is the number one catalyst that sets off bad behaviour.

It seems like a soft suggestion, to tell parents to stand smiling as their young kid numbs their nerves. Hard to do, no doubt. But the truth is that easy or not, calm creates the environment which is most conductive to keeping relationships close and children under control.

As a parent you must always have your mind clear and focus on the big behaviours that matter. It is the concept of rationing. Use your time, energy and effort to target the things that really matter. Fix the big and ditch the trivial.

The greatest reward comes when I tell parents this and they just sit in their chair dumbfounded. After a few minutes of contemplating, the message sinks in and they start to smile. They accept the truth in what has been said to them.

It is true that what I have presented to you is profound and it is equally true that I don’t have to live with your young child too. The saying goes, ‘Easier said than done,’ and I agree.

However, if you do take note of this strategy and start implementing it, you will find that the tantrums will go down and you will get more quality communication going which will help the relationship in the long term.

Long-Term Effects Of Medical And Recreational Use Of ADD Meds
By Jimmy Brownen

What is the reason for abusage of drugs such as Adderall, Ritalin, Dexedrine, Concerta? You may have seen one episode of the Desperate Housewives in which Lynette, start consuming her childrens Adderall so that she can be more energized to keep up with them. This is just one common instance of misuse of ADD medications.

Example of an ADD abuse case.

Mike is a successful attorney with a very hectic schedule. More and more demands are being made on him, and if he wants to make partner at his firm in record time, he has got to find more hours and more energy.

One night, he was having drinks with a pal and complaining about his fatigue but that he cant afford to slow down. His friend said hed been taking Adderall for the past 2 months to keep his competitive edge at work. He was able to convince his physician that he had trouble paying attention at work and staying organized. He was subsequently diagnosed with ADD and voila he had his prescription for Adderall! He felt great, maybe a little more edgy than usual, but it was worth it!

Mike took his pals advice and was easily able to score his very own prescription for Ritalin. For the first few weeks, Mike thought he felt better. He didnt seem to tire as easily and he was winning his cases like crazy! Moreover, he had lost those extra 8 pounds hed never been able to shed. Mike thought hed found the perfect solution.

Three months later; Mikes happy ending had changed into a nightmare. He was beginning to loose sleep; spending no more than two to three hours of night sleep. He had also developed terrible mood swings and was easily irritated by those around him. His wife tried to reason with him on this but he refuses to listen to her.

Meanwhile, at work, Mikes coworkers began to observe some paranoia. Mike was positive that attorneys with whom he previously professed to have a close working relationship were now gunning to get him fired and trying to sabotage his cases. No one seemed to know what he was talking about.

Mike finally went to a physician and it needless to say the cause was unveiled. He was immediately taken off the medication which was causing these symptoms and a few weeks later things went back to normal for Mike.

Drugs prescribed for ADD are very similar to cocaine. They also work to increase the amount of dopamine to receptors thus produce calming effects on the body. Whether you are suffering from ADD or not, these drugs can be just as dangerous.

These stimulants are used for obvious reasons that they provide the calming effects for those with ADD disorder. However, this is not true as users tend to experience the opposite effect.

The two top users of these drugs without proper medical prescription are college students and housewives. Bet you didnt expect the latter. The top reasons for use are to gain more energy, more attention, and of course to get high. The drugs can be taken normally or crushed and snorted in which it increases the drugs effect.
The public should be exposed to more knowledge of long term effects of the substance since the use of these substance have rose higher over the years.

Abusing stimulants for even short amounts of time alter the brain and its chemistry. These same drugs that are thought to produce that calming effect (remember the dopamine?) actually begin to destroy the receptors for dopamine, which in turn makes dopamine less effective for calming! Other side effects of using these drugs can include:

- Communication between the two hemisphere of the brain will gradually become ineffective. This is due to the significant loss of the grey matter, a substance that surrounds the corpus callosum which carries the responsibility to do so.
- Deficits in the hippocampus, the part of the brain that takes care of functions like feeding, drinking, activity level, etc.
- Develop abnormal brain structure akin to deficits in early dementia and schizophrenia seen on MRIs.

What has been mentioned might not be enough to convince you so here are more side-effects:
- Paranoia
- Insomnia
- Extreme feelings of hostility
- Anorexia
- Depression
- Short temper
- Poor attention span
- A feeling of being on the edge
- Psychosis
- Memory loss
- Hallucinations
- Severe mood problems

You also need to understand that like many other drugs, you need more and more of it to get the same effect you are hoping to get. So there really doesnt seem to be a good reason for using these drugs, is there?

As a leading practitioner in the field of treating attention deficit disorder, Jimmy Brownen has had man years of experience in the treatment of such disorders. For more information on adderall or vyvanse, please visit his site today.

Attention Deficit Disorder in Schools is More Common than You Would Think

Attention deficit disorder or ADD as it is commonly known is an ailment which affects the attention of a child. As a result of this condition, the child is inattentive, impulsive and extremely hyperactive. The statistics indicate that boys are affected three times as much as girls by ADD. The affliction becomes obvious when the child turns around four years old. The occurrence of attention deficit disorder in schools is high; it is reported that five out of every hundred school going children suffer from this affliction.

Attention Deficit Disorder in Schools is Difficult to Diagnose

Unfortunately the behavior that ADD represents is actually expected in children. It does not look like difficulty in concentration is a problem till it reflects heavily in the grades and it is obvious to the parents that despite their best efforts the children are unable to focus on a subject for a long time.

It is the same with the hyperactivity symptom. Since ADD is more common with boys, and boys are expected to be hyperactive, it takes a lot of observation to find that this is indeed a symptom of ADD. Lastly the impulsive behavior too is pretty common among people and hence it will not attract undue attention till much later.

Looking at these facts, it becomes clear that attention deficit disorder in schools is quite common - more common than would want to admit. Once again, since it affects three times more boys than girls and the symptoms very much falls within the purview of their common behavior, it takes a long time to realize that there could be a problem. It is however, very important to diagnose this problem as early as possible so the child’s career is not harmed.

It looks like a lot will depend on the keen observation of the teacher to identify attention deficit disorder in schools. Actually it is easier to recognize the symptoms of attention deficit disorder in schools than at home because the children are more focused on the task at the school than they will ever be at home, and hence it will be difficult for a parent to really catch on that their child is unable to concentrate on any given task at hand.

Once they are identified, special attention can be offered so the child can cope with his studies and reduce the anxiety that he feels at school.

Cooking With The Microwave

By Jack Sands

When it comes to cooking there are few tools that are more versatile in the kitchen than the microwave. This device offers so many functions when it comes to cooking that most people never bother to utilize. It’s sad really. In most homes, the microwave has been relegated to doing duty as a meat defroster, popcorn popper, and coffee warmer rather than using is as the fabulous device for actual food preparation that it really is capable of being.
